Statistics indicate that the over 60’s are the least likely age group to experience crime, are also the least likely age group to report crime, particularly Elder Abuse as it mainly occurs within the family, but are also the age group the most likely to feel less safe as they age. These statistics are regularly confirmed in our discussions with Seniors groups around the State.

OPSO was a founder member of the Seniors Task Force on Crime against Seniors when it was established by the Queensland Police Commissioner and reports on our experiences are available from the website.

As a consequence our involvement in the Task Force, OPSO addresses all Police Recruits on the experiences that have influenced the older generations, leading to ways of better understanding and communicating with Seniors, and their fear of crime.
